Ok, time for catch-up. T, Adam, Jack (the dog) and I decided that we’d leave on Friday to seek refuge from Hurricane Dennis, after much calling for a hotel, the closest one we could find was in Oxford, which is 5 hours away. Bah, we decided to go for it anyway, especially since I’ve been wanting to revisit Ole Miss (where I went to school for 2 ½ years) for some time now. We decided to take the extreme back roads to avoid all the other ‘tards that would be evacuating just like us. I –loved- going the back roads… so.. many… abandoned farms, homesteads, barns, and economically depressed little towns that looked like they hadn’t seen better days since the bloody 1940’s. Gah! It was torture, cause we couldn’t stop… but damn, how I desperately wanted to explore some of those places. I didn’t take any photos on the way up, as I was busy being the navigator, but I figured I’d be able to take plenty on the way back home. We finally reached Oxford, got checked into our hotel, and proceeded to be lazy slobs for days, only rousing from our tv-watching stupor to visit the campus, walk the dogs, and go to all the restaurants I remembered fondly. We really did have a good time. I miss spending days and nights of uninterrupted time with Adam. *sigh*.
Naturally, the way back home was a shit-storm from hell weather-wise… which sucked cause I really couldn’t take photos of all the nifty buildings that I’d wanted, and the few I did were rushed and I don’t think turned out too well. I’ll find out how the worked soon and post them to my webspace… as soon as I get my camera back from Adam.
Why does Adam have my camera? Wellll…. We were ALMOST home (just outside of Wiggins) when his car decided to buy the fucking farm. We believe from the protests, moans, and screams that his transmission is shot. Great… cause we’re just shitting money to fix things like this. It was scary for me, cause the damn thing was STUCK in drive… and kept rolling down the hill and refusing to go into park. We were able to contact Adam’s dad, who came to tow his car home, and I rode home the rest of the way with T and her 5 animals… whom I all love as dearly as if they were my own fur-babies… but riding in a car with that many animals.. whew.. it can be rough… I don’t know how T did it the FULL 5 ½ hours there and back. Heheh that’s dedication. Long story short, I forgot my camera in Adam’s vehicle so we’ll have to wait to post photos. Thankfully, Adam’s brother’s girlfriend (yeah, try that one three times fast) has a spare car (she just bought a new one) that Adam can use until we get his vehicle fixed.
I got back on Tuesday, had to work on Wednesday, and then had my normal off days for today and Friday. 1-day work weeks are fantastic. I’ve really got quite a lot of chores to do today.. but I don’t know if I’m going to be able to rouse my lazy ass to do them. We had a very violent thunderstorm breeze through this morning, which woke me up at 6:30 a.m. and I haven’t been able to get back to bed since.
Last night Adam and I had a late dinner at mahoney’s café. But I was so damned tired afterwards that we went straight home and I went right to bed.
Now I am relatively broke (4 nights in a hotel room, gas, eating out, etc goes a long way to drain one’s bank account) but perhaps I can dig through the seat cushions and get enough money for Adam and I to go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tonight.
Hopefully I’ll hear more soon about that permanent job I’d mentioned in earlier posts… but its been really quiet on that front lately. Slightly depressing, because if it doesn’t come through I’ll have to scramble to register for some crap courses at the local college so I can keep my current position until December. But, I’m still on track to be a competent driver –and- be applying for jobs in Dec., so none of my goals have changed, thankfully. We’ll see how it all works out.
Damn, I apologize for clogging up your f-lists with so much text. Humor me.
